Website Hosting Tips

We provide space on our servers and configure our server so that your personal or companies web pages can be displayed on the Internet. Before you can get to this point, we need to arrange a domain name for you. One of our Web servers will then need to be setup to respond to your Domain name.

You will also need to have a web site made up or you can make your own web pages. If you need help, we can provide you with contact details for some of New Zealand's reputable Web Designers who are also familiar with our servers and who will make your website work.

With all the new Web design packages now available, making up a web site is pretty easy. There are a few "gotchas" that new users to the net need to be aware of to make sure your web site works.

Kiwilink's servers are case aware: This means there is a difference between UPPER and lower case filenames and links to pages/images etc. As a general rule of thumb, it is a good idea to make your filenames and links, all lower case.

The first filename in every web site should be called index.htm or index.html. Our web servers know to look for this name as the first file in each web site. Any other names will need to be referred to by their full name..

eg http://www.yourname.co.nz/filename.html instead of http://www.yourname.co.nz
